Sheriff Murphree
Tracy was born and raised in Yoakum County Texas. He graduated from Plains High School 1984. After attending McMurry University and majoring in History and Political Science, he left college and graduated from the Texas Department of Public Safety Training Academy in 1988.
In 2020, he continued his education and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Texas A&M-Commerce with a Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice. Tracy worked as a Highway Patrol Trooper in Morton and Denton 1988 to 1994. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1994 and was stationed in Pecos.
As a Highway Patrol Sergeant, Tracy was responsible for 5 counties and 12 Troopers. In 1996, he became a narcotics agent with the Texas DPS narcotics division and was stationed in Houston. His duties included conducting narcotics investigations and working undercover. In 1998, he was selected to be a Texas Ranger and was stationed in Denton. As a Texas Ranger, Tracy conducted major investigations including homicides.
In 2011, he retired from Texas DPS with 23 years, notably,13 of those years was serving as a Texas Ranger. Only twenty-four hours after retiring from DPS, the Denton County Sheriff's Office hired Tracy as the Captain of the Criminal Investigations Division. He supervised and was responsible for Criminal Investigations, Narcotics Investigations, and crime scene. In 2014, he left the Sheriff's Office to work for Paladin. Paladin is a company developing technology for Law Enforcement.
In 2016, Tracy was elected as the Sheriff of Denton County. His first term began on 01-01-2017. In 2020, Tracy was ReElected as the Sherriff of Denton County. Tracy is married to Stacy. They have seven children, Caden, Morgan, Maci, Kenzie, Collin, Emma and Conner.
